Sleep is an important topic to all of us. Good health and well-being is dependent upon a good night’s sleep. Not getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help cause issues with decision making, problem solving, behavior control, and more. Sleep plays an important role in our physical health as well. Heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and decreased healing all can occur from sleep deprivation.
The amount of sleep each person needs changes over the course of their lives. For example, newborns need around 16 hours of sleep whereas an adult averages 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
Some key ingredients to a good night’s sleep include managing stress, decreasing caffeine, exercising, avoiding the snooze button, keeping the room temperature cool, and turning off all sources of light.
Unfortunately, sometimes even after repeating healthy habits once can still have sleep issues. This could be a sign of a sleep disorder.
